VEX 6 Installation Guide for Gen 6 Glocks
Johnny Glocks VEX 6 Trigger System - Glock Gen 6 Installation Guide
Welcome to your quick-start guide for installing the Johnny Glocks VEX™ 6 Trigger Kit for Glock Gen 6 pistols. This installation involves both frame and slide disassembly, component replacement, and final safety checks.
⚠️ Before you begin: Always ensure your firearm is unloaded and clear. Safety first. Work on a clean surface with adequate lighting.
🛠️ Tools You’ll Need:
- Glock disassembly tool or punch.
- Included hex wrench
- Small flathead or jeweler’s screwdriver (optional but helpful)
STEP 1: VERIFY UNLOADED
Remove magazine, lock slide back, visually and physically inspect chamber, release slide, dry fire in safe direction.
STEP 2: FIELD STRIP
Pull slide slightly rearward, pull down slide lock, remove slide from frame.
STEP 3: FRAME DISASSEMBLY
Remove rear trigger housing pin, locking block, slide stop lever, and trigger assembly.
STEP 4: SLIDE DISASSEMBLY
Remove backplate, striker assembly, depress firing pin safety, remove extractor.
STEP 5: IDENTIFY KIT COMPONENTS
Trigger bar with shoe (do not remove grease), connector, firing pin safety, reduced power safety spring, striker springs, trigger return spring, hex wrench.
STEP 6: FRAME ASSEMBLY
Install connector, trigger bar, slide stop, locking block, and trigger pin.
STEP 7: SLIDE ASSEMBLY
Install firing pin safety and spring (cutout faces inward), install extractor, striker assembly, and backplate.
STEP 8: REASSEMBLY
Join slide and frame, rack slide, dry fire.
STEP 9: STRIKER SPRING SELECTION
- Defensive: 5 lb (yellow) or 4.5 lb (orange)
- 4.5 & 5 both are 100% primer strike reliable.
- The 4.5 lb spring break weight averages 3.5-4.25
- The 5 lb spring, break weight averages 4-4.75
- Install the appropriate spring for your level of comfort
- Competition: 4.5 lb (orange) or 4 lb (green)
- Please note if you are using harder primers the 4 lb spring is susceptible to light strikes.
- 4.5 lb break weight averages 3-2.25
- 4 lb break weight averages 2.5-2
STEP 10: SAFETY CHECKS
Trigger safety, drop safety, firing pin safety must all pass.
*OPTIONAL ADVANCED SETUP
Trigger return spring upgrade and overtravel screw adjustment.
FINAL NOTES
No break-in required. Test thoroughly before live fire.
Critical Notes (Read This)
- Do not wipe off the grease on the trigger bar/shoe — it’s there for a reason.
- Work on a flat surface with room — small parts can launch.
-
If you adjust/tune and anything feels off, return to baseline and contact support or a qualified armorer.
Troubleshooting & Common Issues
If something doesn’t feel right after installation, don’t force it. Most issues come from seating, alignment, or tuning being pushed a little too far. Use the guidance below to identify what to check.
Trigger Does Not Break
What it usually means
-
The system is over-adjusted or not returning to its proper starting position.
What to check
- Return to the baseline configuration shown in the video.
- Remove any optional tuning changes and confirm proper function before reintroducing adjustments.
No Reset or Weak Reset
What it usually means
-
A spring interaction or adjustment is preventing full forward travel.
What to check
- Confirm the system is assembled in its baseline configuration.
- Verify components are seated correctly and moving freely.
- Re-test reset before making any further changes.
Inconsistent or “Spongy” Feel
What it usually means
-
You’re feeling normal striker movement amplified by tuning choices.
What to check
- Try the baseline spring setup first.
- Remember: striker-fired systems will always have some movement—tuning is about feel, not eliminating motion entirely.
Trigger Safety Does Not Engage Properly
What it usually means
-
Something is interfering with the trigger’s forward position.
What to check
-
Confirm nothing is preventing the trigger shoe from returning fully forward.
-
Re-run the trigger safety check shown in the video before proceeding.
Fails Safety Validation Checks
What it usually means
-
A component is not seated correctly or the system has been over-tuned.
What to do
- Stop.
- Return the system to the baseline setup.
- Re-verify all safety checks exactly as demonstrated in the video before use.
Overtravel / Adjustment Issues
What it usually means
-
Too much adjustment was removed from the system.
What to check
- If adjustment creates unreliable function, remove the adjustment from the equation and confirm the system functions correctly without it.
- Reliability always comes before feel.
General Rule
If you make a change and something feels off:
- Go back to baseline
- Confirm safe function
- Then re-introduce changes one at a time
If you’re unsure at any point, stop and reach out.
