Umbra Installation Guide for Shadow Systems
How to Install the Johnny Glocks Umbra Trigger Kit
Welcome to your quick-start guide for installing the Johnny Glocks Umbra Trigger Kit for Shadow Systems pistols. This installation involves both frame and slide disassembly, component replacement, and final safety checks.
⚠️ Before you begin: Always ensure your firearm is unloaded and clear. Safety first.
🛠️ Tools You’ll Need:
-
Small punch set (for removing shadow systems extractor plunger)
-
Needle nose pliers or scissors (for zip ties)
-
0.035 hex wrench (included with purchase)
-
Small flathead or jeweler’s screwdriver (optional but helpful)
Step 1: Frame Disassembly
-
Clear the gun and dry fire to break the trigger.
-
Remove the slide from the frame.
-
Pop out the pins:
-
Rear pin
-
Trigger pin
-
Locking block pin (can be tricky—wiggle the slide catch if stuck).
-
-
Use your tool to lift the locking block.
-
Pull up the ejector and remove the entire trigger assembly.
-
Set all parts aside in one spot to stay organized.
Step 2: Slide Disassembly
-
Locate the notch between the lug face and spacer sleeve and push down lightly.
-
Apply pressure with your thumb and slide off the backplate.
-
Carefully remove the striker.
-
If applicable, remove the optic and optic plate to access the extractor.
-
Use the included 0.035 hex wrench to remove the extractor plunger stop pin from underneath.
-
With your thumb over it (to catch spring tension), remove the extractor assembly.
-
Press the firing pin safety and tap to remove the extractor and safety mechanism.
Step 3: Installing the New Trigger Assembly
-
Open the package and cut the zip tie holding the parts.
-
Insert the new trigger assembly into the frame.
-
Reinstall:
-
Locking block
-
Rear pin (from either direction)
-
Slide catch
-
Final pin
-
-
Make sure the slide catch pin seats fully. Done! Frame complete.
Step 4: Reassembling the Slide with Umbra Parts
Choose Your Striker Spring:
-
Green (4 lb): Lightest; smooth, possible light strikes with low-quality ammo.
-
Orange (4.5 lb): Balanced choice (recommended).
-
Yellow (5 lb): Heavier break; reliable ignition.
Each spring is color-coded and labeled.
Step 5: Firing Pin Safety Installation
-
Open the small parts pack.
-
Insert the spring into the firing pin safety.
-
Push the assembly into place from the underside of the slide.
-
Reinstall the extractor—it should capture the firing pin safety.
-
Apply forward pressure to align the extractor.
-
Use a longer punch or jeweler’s screwdriver to compress the extractor plunger and drop in the retaining pin.
⚠️ This is the trickiest part. Take your time and apply steady pressure.
Step 6: Installing the Striker Assembly
-
If using the Johnny Glocks striker, it’s pre-assembled.
-
If reusing your striker:
-
Remove the old spring and spring cups.
-
Install your chosen spring.
-
Compress and carefully seat spring cups without letting the spring coil get stuck between them.
-
✅ Important: Misaligned cups or spring ends sitting in the cup seam will cause function issues.
Step 7: Reassembly & Safety Checks
-
Reinsert the striker assembly into the slide.
-
Hold the backplate halfway, compress the spacer sleeve, and snap the backplate back into place.
-
Reinstall the recoil assembly and attach the slide to the frame.
Step 8: Functional Safety Checks
-
Trigger Safety Check: Pull the trigger without pressing the safety tab—it should not break.
-
Vertical Extension Test: Pull the trigger shoe forward and press down on the cruciform—it should be solid.
-
Firing Pin Safety Check: Press it—it should block striker movement unless properly disengaged.
These tests verify that all three passive safeties are working: trigger, drop, and firing pin.
